The Franciscan Brothers say they have to close a monastery where thousands of the faithful have attended retreats and services since 1929. The decision comes a year after Suffolk County and the Town of Brookhaven paid $4.4 million to buy 44 acres at the Little Portion Friary in Mount Sinai to preserve it as open space.
