DNA marker kits tested as a means to thwart thefts on Long Island

The Suffolk County Legislature on Long Island has just approved spending $25,000 to buy DNANET tagging kits that it says will be tested as a means of combating burglaries. According to the manufacturer, Applied DNA Sciences of Stony Brook, NY, the kits come with a "liquid marker containing DNA strands that can be used to help police identify items that have been stolen back to their rightful owners.
