Cops: Property crimes up, violence down in Mastic Beach

Property crimes jumped nearly 11 percent last year in Mastic Beach compared with 2013, mostly because of drug-dependent criminals, Suffolk County police said. In total, property crimes in the South Shore village grew to 311 in 2014 compared with 281 the year before, police said.
