Spota renews call to stiffen penalties for hit-and-run drivers in serious accidents

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota renewed his call Tuesday for tougher penalties for drivers who leave the scene of a serious accident. "Quite frankly, right now the penalties for a hit-and-run driver are such that it is almost an encouragement for people to leave the scene," Spota said in his Hauppauge office.
