New commissioner named for troubled Islip Town parks department

The Islip Town Board has named a new commissioner for its troubled parks department, which has been under investigation by the Suffolk County district attorney's office as part of an illegal dumping probe. Kerry Sloane Bassett, 39, a deputy Islip Town attorney, was named to the $101,000-a-year post by the town board at its yearly organization meeting Monday at Town Hall.
