Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced that the Cross Enhancement Project has been removed from the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council's Regional Freight Plan after receiving criticism from several communities. The proposed project would have diverted 3,000 vehicles per year from Connecticut's I-95 to a Long Island Sound waterway corridor bringing those vehicles directly into the Orient Point Ferry station and the Town of Southold.
