An East Meadow man crossing the road in Islip Saturday night was struck and killed by a Suffolk County police car that was responding to a 911 call nearby, police said. According to police, 54-year-old Craig Schiffer was crossing Main Street, just west of Islip Town Hall, at 10:34 p.m. when he was hit by the police car that had been traveling east on Main Street in response to a 911 call in East Islip.
