Suffolk GOP lawmakers question chaplain's pay hike

Some Republican county legislators in Suffolk are questioning a fivefold pay hike for a part-time Suffolk County Police Department chaplain, to nearly $25,000 a year. The county waiver committee, which approves noncompetitive contracts, voted last month to boost the annual contract of deputy chief chaplain Stephen Unger from $4,963 to $24,995.

Police are seeking the public's help to identify and locate a man who burglarized a Smithtown business last year. Police say the man entered Legend Luxury Transportation, located at 157 Terry Road, used a sledgehammer to loosen a safe that was bolted to the floor and fled the scene with the safe, which contained cash, on Oct. 27 at about 4 a.m. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

March 1st, 2015 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in Copiague early Saturday morning. A 14-year-old male was standing in the street in front of 550 West Prospect Street when he was shot by an unknown person today at approximately 1:10 a.m. The victim, who is not being identified at this time, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was treated and released.
