Suffolk GOP lawmakers question chaplain's pay hike

Some Republican county legislators in Suffolk are questioning a fivefold pay hike for a part-time Suffolk County Police Department chaplain, to nearly $25,000 a year. The county waiver committee, which approves noncompetitive contracts, voted last month to boost the annual contract of deputy chief chaplain Stephen Unger from $4,963 to $24,995.
