LIRR: Vehicle struck by train in Patchogue; crash is second such accident in 24 hours

For the second time in 24 hours, a Long Island Rail Road train struck an unauthorized vehicle on railroad tracks on Long Island -- this time in Patchogue, officials said. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries after the latest crash Tuesday, at the Rider Avenue grade crossing just after noon, Suffolk County police said.
