Suffolk suit seeks refund of $117 million in sewer district taxes

A new lawsuit seeks to force Suffolk County to refund $117 million that the Southwest Sewer District allegedly overcharged customers on their property tax bills. The lawsuit, filed Monday in State Supreme Court in Riverhead, says a sewer district reserve fund meant to stabilize taxes, and which holds the $116.9 million, has grown even though most of the district's debt has been paid off.
